Babette was one of the most relaxed brides Ive photographed so far. I suppose that relaxation is the “knowing” you have as a bride that you are marrying your perfect match. That’s how the whole day felt; like two people who had connected seamlessly were just doing what was meant: Tying the knot. Getting Married. Getting hitched. Making the commitment to spending the rest of their life’s together. Some couples just sail through the day, happy to be in each others company, truly happy and open to what lies ahead. This was one of those couples. What a pleasure to photograph their wedding.

Babette was getting ready at the Dorchester slipping into the most glorious of dresses, and meeting Thanos at the Greek Orthadox Church on Bayswater for the intense and meaningful ceremony. Wedding portraits at the Serpentine in Hyde Park and then back to the Dorchester for canapes, champagne and a stunning dinner service.

These two rocked my wedding photography boat. They really did. Thanos, a polite and thoughtful groom. Babette, sweet and strong. The two of them, perfection.  Much Love  C x

Getting to know me as a photographer

So when I meet my clients and show them my work, nowadays its not just about the images Ive taken or my albums, but who I am as a wedding photographer. When a client comes back to me after scouring the very large pool of photographers for the right person for their wedding day, there are a number of reasons why they come back. Definitely my style of wedding photography which is photo journalistic, classic and emotional; But mostly they say they’ve come back because they like me as a person which is lovely. What a treat to be chosen because of your personality and not just your images or experience. Maybe its too hard nowadays because there’s so many wedding photographers out there to choose from? (There’s plenty of weddings to go around though!)

Weddings are Something Special

When I first started, I was one of a few, shooting on film, offering something special (I am a woman to start with!- not many female wedding photographers out there then!) and I told (and still do)  the story of the day, instead of just taking formal photographs and portraits. Anyway, it all brings me back to my original point. Its about who I am as a person.

Couples say they want someone who “fits in” to their day. So here’s a chance to get to know me better. Ill be posting snippets from my favourite things in life, things that move me, people I’ve met who inspire me, things that help you get to know me… I’ll be at one of the most important days of your life so here I am!….

From left to right..

1. Favourite T-shirt at the moment! Made by Purusha People on Etsy the best yoga clothes- want to buy the whole shop-relaxed and so soft. (Colour has run a bit but who cares)

2. My mums ring- she gave it to me (OK, I was having a rummage in her jewellery box and she caught me) at the weekend. Its so retro classic and I love it.

3. This is an emotional one…So when I go to my Mums house I always have a little moment snooping about in my Dads old things. I think it makes me feel like I’m closer to him for a moment, and I always find something I like or am surprised to find something he kept of mine or my sisters. I sit on the side of his bed and pick up his things and my Mum always gives me something of his. So here’s his retro original Ray-Bans and a few old black and white images of him as a young man. Big Love Dad x

4. Books, books, books. Whenever I move home the removal people stare at my bookcase and then look at me as if I’m mad. OK so I have a lot of books. I may not read all the time now (who has the time!?) but I love to flick through whenever I have a moment and shift the books around the house so that the ones I’m flicking though are in the front room or by my bed so I can see them all the time. Here’s the latest stack..

5. One of my favourite places to escape to is the Baliffscourt Hotel and spa. An amazing venue for weddings actually. Perfect location for wedding portraits and they have beautiful four poster beds to slumber in. They have a sweet little walk down to the sea to a secluded beach, perfect for pebble throwing.

6. All things vintage. I have this sign in my kitchen. Cheers me up (of course!) and people always ask me where I got it. Cant remember but I’m always collecting little things. (Need a bigger house.)

Sam and Verity’s wedding was always going to be a good one , right from the beginning and throughout their organising process, their Facebook updates were hilarious. I’d heard on the “Bridesmaid grapevine” that these two were like peas in a pod, as thick as thieves, and they weren’t wrong. I knew how much rapport they had with each other from shooting the portraits a week before but today, somehow they really came alive together. Like a comedy duo who can only work with each other.

My day as the wedding photographer started at Verity’s parents in Seaford, all the girls arriving with their yellow dresses to greet Verity and helping her into her dress and bustling her into the car.

We photographed the wedding ceremony and reception at the gorgeous Birling Manor in East Dean, a perfect location that showered the guests in the bright sunlight making for some fun portraits rich with colour,  infusing the entire set with vibrancy and life. After an afternoon of Pimms outside they went into the marquee for some very moving speeches and a good old shindig. Wish we could have stayed longer !

Natalie and Darren planned their wedding to encompass the love they have for their friends, family, and each other. Not only did they accomplish this, they set a foot forward into their new lives together.

At their heart warming ceremony in Hove in front of their closest, they promised to be together always. A reading by Natalies sister left everyone tear-jerked. Portraits by the beach huts and on the beach made me realise how suited they really are . Life experience, time together and a profound understanding of each others sense of humour make them solid, bound and very funny together.

Natalie and Darren, I hope youre enjoying your new life together as Husband and Wife! Soak it up and Thank You for letting us capture your wedding and making us feel like we were part of the gang! x

Meeting Sam and Verity on the beach really early on a Sunday morning was a delight, (apart from the cold!) a week before the wedding and they were relaxed, comfortable with each other and just plain excited about their big day. After all the organising, there was a sense of calm between them to be just hanging out together.

I think this couple are the best. So in love.  Just wait till you see the wedding photographs….

I promised to show you the dress I coveted most in all my years of shooting and here it is. Oh and a beautiful wedding as well lets not forget! Deborah and Ned, understated, in love and truly British in their taste and choices. A traditional church, a Rolls and a country style setting at a pub called the Royal Oak. What more could you want for  perfect wedding in the English countryside.

So, back to the dress. Monique L’huillier of course and the shoes were Choo Couture. Per.Fect. (Im having a little bliss moment here). Anyway, take a look. not much else to say… Love.

Some of our favourite dresses last year. SO hard to choose form the hundreds we have. We always look forward to seeing the dress, even though we’ve seen lots, its always a treat to be one of the first to see it hanging there.

Something fundamental happens when a woman puts on her wedding dress; something shifts. All morning she maybe having fun, feeling nervous, not really taking it in that shes about to get married, but as soon as that dress goes on.. Its a little bit of magic and we are lucky enough to see it happen.

When I first met Claire and Matt at their home in South West London, I knew straight away that they were perfectly suited for each other. You know when you meet those couples who just seem to bounce off each other, have a great sense of humour between them and a watertight bond to go with it? These are those people. After a few meetings including a fun portrait shoot on the beach in Brighton, the wedding day came upon us. Claire was more nervous than I expected and surrounded by her lovely friends and sisters dressed in coral, she composed herself, and made her way in the bright sunshine to meet Matt.

A typical English countryside wedding, blue skies and lots of confetti, these two were obviously smitten and seemed at their most comfortable once they could stand side by side, which they did for the rest of the day. Retiring to the stunning private home at Dunsborough Park, the guests shaded themselves in the well groomed garden while we went for portraits around the extensive grounds

These two made our hearts swell when they were alone, so perfectly matched they are.

The evening was fun and relaxed, the weather perfect and the air crisp with late summer dusk. Certainly one of our favourites last summer. Congratulations you two x
